Arne Jacobsen intended the organic shape of this chair as a contrast to the straight lines and rectangular shapes of the hotel building. The sculptural shape of the Egg™ Lounge Chair was made possible by the use of the then brand new technology of a foam shell covered with upholstery. Arne Jasobsen was the first to use this technology.
The Egg™ Lounge Chair is now manufactured under exclusive licence by the Danish brand Fritz Hansen and is available in many upholstery designs in a variety of fabrics, including the popular Kvadrat fabrics, as well as in top quality leather.
Along with the Egg™ Lounge Chair, Arne Jasobsen created other follow-up, now iconic furniture collections for the SAS Royal Hotel: Swan, Series 3000 and Drop. With this furniture, Arne Jacobsen made Danish design history around the world.
