The Silhouette figurines were designed by Alexander Girard for the New York restaurant La Reserve. They were to be placed between the dining tables and, in addition to being a decorative element, also serve as an attractive partition between the guests. The restaurant did not eventually come into being, but Girard's designs have survived. They were acquired by the Vitra Design Museum and, in collaboration with Girard's family, the brand decided to bring the Silhouette figures to life.
