Iittalla was also one of the first companies, which moved from producing decorative goods with ornamental motifs to more functional and aesthetic designs inspired by Scandinavian minimalism.
Main breakthrough came in the 1930s and 1940s when design giants such as Alvar Aalto, Aino Aalto and Kaj Franck were behind the steering wheel of the brand. For example, Alvar Aalto's famous glass collection was introduced in this period. In the following years, other collections were created, which are now considered design classics. These include, for example, a collection of magical Taika porcelain, beautiful glass candle holders and Kastehelmi tableware, minimalist Essence glassware or Kartio glass.
Since then, Iittala has become one of the icons of Scandinavian design thanks to its unique combination of functionality and aesthetics.
