In the 1950s, designers Charles and Ray Eames developed an innovative collection of freestanding, multifunctional shelves and tables. Like their previous designs, these followed the principles of industrial production.
In collaboration with the Eames office and Dutch designer Hella Jongerius, a new colour scheme was carefully chosen to give ESU and EDU a fresh and modern look while celebrating the spirit of the 1940s and 1950s. The Eames ESU & EDU collection offers several shelf designs. The wider ESU Shelf is available in a variety of heights, from a sideboard to a tall bookcase. The Bookcase ESU design is slightly narrower and features drawers and sliding doors to provide practical storage options.
The construction is made of black painted steel in contrast to the wooden parts, which are in birch wood. The coloured panels come in multiple shades (see gallery preview) and are made from aluminium.
