Verner Panton

Verner Panton (1926–1998) is considered one of the most influential interior and furniture designers of the 20th century. During his career, he created many innovative, playful and futuristic designs.

Verner Panton worked with a variety of materials, mostly plastic, and liked to experiment with colours. His designs reflect the style of the 1960s, which regained popularity at the end of the 20th century. Today, some companies (e.g. Vitra or &Tradition) still sell pieces by the famous designer.

It was architect and writer Pøul Henningsen who introduced Verner Panton to product design when they met at the Royal Academy of Arts. Equally important was the partnership Panton had with Arne Jacobsen, whom he assisted between 1950 and 1952 in designing now famous furniture pieces such as the Ant Chair.

Panton himself claimed to have learned more from Arne Jacobsen than from anyone else. Like him, Panton was a visionary designer – among other things, he created the first inflatable furniture.

At DesignVille, you can buy Verner Panton's famous Flowerpot lamps or Topan lamps, both produced by &Tradition.
