The Hungarian-born designer spent most of his life in France or travelling around the world, from which he took inspiration for his architectural and design work. He was the first to combine metal tubes with perforated sheets of metal in his designs, creating a technique called "ritigulle", which Matégot patented and which became a hallmark of his work.
