Atlas Coffee Table 82x82, Costa Black Marble

The Atlas Coffee Table collection from New Works is full of historical influences and references. It is named after the mythical Titan condemned to hold up the heavens on his shoulders. Likewise, the solid table legs stand strongly as support for the spacious tabletop. Designer John Astbury was inspired by several architectural elements and styles when designing it. In this brutalist piece, we can also see the influence of archetypal post-and-lintel construction. Combined with simple geometry, the circle and the square, it is the primary archetype that together creates the table’s character and composition.
